Ian Aldridge, local organiser of SLS
Ian Aldridge

Unser neuer local agent:   Mr. Ian ALDRIDGE

"I am the person that most students will not meet, so let me tell you a little about myself…

I am British, 57 years old and have lived in the Watchet/Williton area since 1979.  I have been involved with the Somerset Language School for many years and with my late wife hosted both boy and girl students.  More recently I have assisted the previous Host Family Organizer and after he retired from the role last year, I took over.  The main purpose of my work is to use my local knowledge to find enough families in the immediate area to accommodate all the students.  This has been in progress since February and the task should be complete in good time for the Austrian leaders to allocate students to host families.  I will also be on call during each visit to assist with any unforeseen hitches with accommodation.

Playing a part in the running of the SLS is very rewarding as I believe strongly in internationalism.  I enjoy travel abroad and seeing how ordinary people live their lives, learning of their customs and appreciating their culture.  It may surprise you that so far I have not travelled to Austria, but I hope to change that soon.  Perhaps that will encourage me to learn more German than I understand at present.  I do know the phrase Mein Host, and I will do everything I can to make sure all the students go back to their homes knowing language and culture are not barriers between nations.
